VisitMassive Flooding in Nepal's Thame Suspected as Glacial Lake Outburst
Aug 16, 2024, 11:58 AM
Massive flooding has occurred in Thame, located in the Solukhumbu district of Nepal, suspected to be caused by a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF). The disaster has forced villagers to seek refuge in higher areas as high-altitude glaciers cascaded down the valley. The flood has left nearly all homes damaged or uninhabitable, according to local reports. A school hostel, a health clinic, seven houses, and five hotels have been swept away, with many other houses damaged. The local government, Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality, is involved in assessing the situation and coordinating rescue efforts.
