VisitMaryland Advances Efforts to Replace Collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge by Late 2028
May 31, 2024, 11:50 PM
Maryland officials are progressing with efforts to replace the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) inviting design-build teams to submit proposals for the reconstruction of the bridge and reconnecting the I-695 Baltimore Beltway. The state has opened a three-week period for teams to bid on the project, with proposals due by June 24. The goal is to have the new bridge completed and operational by late 2028. The wreckage of the collapsed bridge has almost been fully removed, with full restoration of the channel expected by June 10. The collapse occurred just over two months ago when a cargo ship slammed into the bridge, killing six construction workers. The RFP requires firms to include a 'Vessel Collision Protection Design Manager' in their bids.
