Oct 14, 2024, 09:30 AM
On October 14, 1964, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his nonviolent campaign for civil rights in the United States. At 35 years of age, he was the youngest person ever to receive the award at the time. King accepted the prize on behalf of the civil rights movement and donated all of his prize money, worth about £19,500, to the cause. The Nobel Peace Prize was handed over by Gunnar Jahn, president of the Nobel Prize Committee, during the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death on December 10 at Oslo University.
