VisitMarriott to Pay $52 Million to 49 States and DC, Implement Security Program After Data Breaches

Marriott International and its subsidiary, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, have agreed to pay $52 million to 49 states and the District of Columbia and enhance their cybersecurity measures to settle charges over three significant data breaches occurring between 2014 and 2020. In a separate settlement with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, Marriott will implement a new information security program to resolve data security allegations. The breaches compromised the personal data of more than 300 million customers worldwide. Marriott has agreed to bolster its data security practices to resolve both state and federal claims related to the breaches.
