VisitMalaysia Approves New 'No Find, No Fee' MH370 Search with Ocean Infinity
Dec 20, 2024, 01:56 PM
Malaysia has agreed to resume the search for the wreckage of missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, more than 10 years after it disappeared in one of the world's greatest aviation mysteries. Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced on Friday, December 20, 2024, that the government has approved a proposal by U.S. marine robotics company Ocean Infinity to conduct a new search for the Boeing 777 aircraft. "The proposed new search area, identified by Ocean Infinity, is based on the latest information and data analyses conducted by experts and researchers. The company's proposal is credible," Loke said in a statement. The plane vanished on March 8, 2014, while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 227 passengers and 12 crew members on board. The renewed search will adopt a "no find, no fee" arrangement, under which Ocean Infinity will only be paid if it locates the aircraft. The proposed new search area, covering 15,000 square kilometers in the southern Indian Ocean, is based on the latest data analyses. The company plans to begin the new search in early 2025, utilizing advanced underwater drones capable of operating at extreme depths. The disappearance of Flight MH370 remains one of aviation's greatest unsolved mysteries, and the new search aims to provide closure to the families of those on board.
