On Sunday at 11:49 AM ET, a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck off the southeastern coast of Cuba, near Guantanamo Bay. The quake was felt in various parts of the island, including Santiago, approximately 100 miles away, and as far as Florida and Jamaica. The earthquake occurred after the region had already been dealing with the aftermath of recent hurricanes and ongoing blackouts. Earlier, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake had hit the same area. Damage assessments are currently underway.
