VisitMagnitude 6.6 Earthquake Strikes Kitimat and Queen Charlotte Islands, No Tsunami Threat

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck off the coast of British Columbia, Canada, on Sunday afternoon. The quake, which occurred near Kitimat and the Queen Charlotte Islands region, was felt strongly near the epicenter but caused no significant damage. The U.S. National Tsunami Center confirmed that there is no tsunami threat following the earthquake. The quake had a shallow depth of 10 km and was reported at 3:22 pm (GMT -7). No tsunami warnings have been issued for California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, or Alaska. The earthquake was also near Marshall Island and 308 km south of Prince Rupert.
