VisitLumen Orbit's 5GW Space Data Centers, Powered by Starship/New Glenn, Aim to Create Orbital Brain for AI
Sep 4, 2024, 09:14 PM
Lumen Orbit has announced the public launch of its ambitious project to deploy 5GW data centers in space. These data centers, described as the beginnings of an orbital brain, will be powered by 16km^2 solar arrays and are designed to meet the growing computing power demands of AI, which exceed the capabilities of terrestrial grids. The initiative is made feasible by the reduced launch costs provided by Starship and New Glenn. This marks a significant step forward in AI scaling and the use of space for high-demand computing applications.
