Luigi Mangione, accused of the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has been formally indicted in New York on charges of first-degree and second-degree murder. The 26-year-old was arrested in Pennsylvania on December 9 and is expected to waive extradition to New York during a court appearance on Thursday. Mangione faces additional charges in Pennsylvania for possessing an unlicensed firearm, forgery, and providing false identification. He has hired Karen Friedman Agnifilo, a former high-ranking deputy in the Manhattan DA's office, as his defense attorney in New York. The shooting of Thompson occurred outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel on December 4 as he was arriving for an investor conference.
