VisitLow-Risk Radioactive Cesium-137 Detected in Finnmark Along Norway-Russia Border
Sep 17, 2024, 09:18 AM
Traces of radioactive Cesium-137 were detected along Norway's border with Russia, specifically in Finnmark, according to the Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA). The radioactivity was measured in filters at Viksjøfjell and Svanhovd between September 9th and 12th. The levels detected are very low and pose no risk to humans or the environment. The origin of the radioactivity remains unknown, and while some speculate it could be linked to a possible Burevestnik/Skyfall test, no definitive connection has been made. Bredo Møller from DSA emphasized the low risk.
