Lions Gate Entertainment, the studio behind popular franchises such as 'John Wick,' 'The Hunger Games,' and 'Twilight,' has signed a deal with generative AI startup Runway. This partnership aims to integrate AI technology into the film production process, focusing on developing a new AI model tailored to Lionsgate’s extensive catalog of over 20,000 film and TV titles. The collaboration is expected to enhance cinematic video production, aid in storyboarding and special effects, and significantly reduce production costs, potentially saving 'millions and millions of dollars.' Lionsgate plans to initially use the AI tool for internal purposes. Additionally, Lionsgate and Runway plan to license their custom AI model to other studios, potentially generating substantial revenue.
