Leslie Charleson, the Daytime Emmy-nominated actress best known for her role as Dr. Monica Quartermaine on the long-running soap opera "General Hospital," has died on Sunday morning at the age of 79 after a long illness. A SAG-AFTRA member since 1966, Charleson joined "General Hospital" in 1977 and became the show's longest-tenured cast member, portraying Monica Quartermaine for nearly 50 years and appearing in over 2,000 episodes. She was considered the heart of the Quartermaine family and a beloved matriarch by generations of viewers. The SAG-AFTRA organization stated, "We celebrate the legacy of daytime TV matriarch Leslie Charleson."
