VisitLéon Marchand Sets Olympic Records with Double Golds in 200m Butterfly and Breaststroke in One Night
Jul 31, 2024, 08:39 PM
Léon Marchand has made Olympic history at the Paris 2024 Games by winning gold medals in both the 200-meter butterfly and the 200-meter breaststroke on the same night. Marchand first captured gold in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 1:51.21, setting a new Olympic record and defeating defending champion Kristóf Milák. Less than two hours later, he secured his second gold in the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:05.85, setting another Olympic record and becoming the first swimmer in Olympic history to win medals in both butterfly and breaststroke in the same Games. This achievement marks Marchand as the first male swimmer since 1976 to win two individual gold medals in one day. His victories also bring his total to three gold medals at the Paris Games, having previously won the 400-meter individual medley in his home Olympics.
