VisitLeicester City Names Former Man United Striker Ruud van Nistelrooy as Manager Until 2027
Nov 29, 2024, 07:07 PM
Leicester City Football Club has appointed Ruud van Nistelrooy as its new manager on a contract until June 2027. The former Manchester United striker replaces Steve Cooper, who was dismissed following a series of poor results that have left the Foxes 16th in the Premier League. Van Nistelrooy, 48, recently served as interim manager at Manchester United, where he enjoyed an unbeaten spell, including two victories over Leicester. He previously managed PSV Eindhoven and cites Manuel Pellegrini's influence on his coaching style, particularly in improving defensive play. Van Nistelrooy will not take charge of the team for the upcoming match against Brentford on Saturday; first-team coach Ben Dawson will lead the side, while Van Nistelrooy watches from the stands. The club hopes that Van Nistelrooy's attacking approach and pedigree will rejuvenate the squad and steer them away from relegation concerns.
