John Robinson, the legendary football coach known for his successful tenures at the University of Southern California (USC) and the Los Angeles Rams, passed away on Monday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with family members by his side due to complications from pneumonia. He was 89. A childhood friend of John Madden, Robinson led USC to the 1978 national championship and guided the Trojans into eight bowl games. He coached USC over two different stints and also served as the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams between his times at USC. Later, he coached at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), leading the Rebels to a then-rare bowl appearance. Robinson was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and served as a consultant for LSU's most recent national title team. He was known for his remarkable coaching career and impact on the sport.
