VisitLee Kiefer Wins Second Consecutive Olympic Gold in Women's Foil with 15-6 Victory Over Lauren Scruggs
Jul 28, 2024, 08:21 PM
American fencer Lee Kiefer, from Lexington, Kentucky, has successfully defended her Olympic title in the women's individual foil at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Kiefer, a former Notre Dame star and current medical student, secured her second consecutive gold medal with a 15-6 victory over fellow American Lauren Scruggs. This marks the first time a U.S. woman has won two Olympic gold medals in individual foil. Scruggs, a Harvard senior and world No. 11, earned the silver medal, making it an all-American final. The final match took place at 3:45 p.m. ET in Le Grande Palais, ensuring a historic 1-2 finish for Team USA in fencing. Kiefer first made history by winning gold in Tokyo 2020, and Scruggs was on the verge of becoming the first Black woman from the U.S. to win an individual fencing medal.
