VisitLebanon PM Mikati Secures US Guarantees to Reduce Israeli Attacks in Beirut; No Airstrikes Since Thursday
Oct 15, 2024, 11:47 AM
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced that Lebanon has received guarantees from the U.S. to reduce Israeli military actions in Beirut and its southern suburbs. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Mikati stated that the Biden Administration provided these assurances amid a backdrop of heightened military tensions. He noted that there have been no Israeli airstrikes in Beirut since last Thursday, a significant reduction compared to the previous two weeks when strikes occurred almost daily. Mikati emphasized the need for a ceasefire, the implementation of UN Resolution 1701, and the election of a new president for Lebanon. The announcement coincided with reports of Israeli jets and surveillance drones over Beirut, which were heard during the interview, including two loud sonic booms.
