VisitLakers Hire JJ Redick as New Head Coach on Four-Year, $32 Million Deal
Jun 20, 2024, 07:18 PM
The Los Angeles Lakers have officially hired JJ Redick as their new head coach. Redick, a former NBA player and current ESPN analyst, impressed the Lakers' management during his interview and has signed a four-year deal worth approximately $32 million. Despite having no prior coaching experience, Redick's basketball IQ and ability to connect with players, including Anthony Davis, were significant factors in the Lakers' decision. The Lakers had also considered Monty Williams and Dan Hurley for the position, but ultimately chose Redick. Jeanie Buss, the Lakers' owner, was involved in the decision-making process. Redick's hiring comes as the Lakers aim to maximize the remaining years of LeBron James' career. Additionally, Redick is expected to bring in notable assistant coaches, including Rajon Rondo and Scott Brooks. Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons had also shown interest in Redick for their head coaching position.
