VisitKylian Mbappé Suffers Broken Nose in France's 1-0 Euro 2024 Win Over Austria, Deschamps Confirms
Jun 17, 2024, 09:21 PM
Kylian Mbappé, 25, suffered a significant injury during France's Euro 2024 opener against Austria. The French forward collided with Austrian defender Kevin Danso, resulting in a heavily bleeding and potentially broken nose. Mbappé received treatment on the pitch but was eventually substituted in the 90th minute. France's coach Didier Deschamps confirmed the severity of the injury, noting that Mbappé's nasal bone is out of place and he may need surgery. Deschamps stated, 'Yes, his nose is not right at all. We’ll see. Obviously, it’s tonight’s negative. It’s only a nose, but it’s very bothering for us.' Despite the injury, France secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Austria, with the only goal being an own goal by Max Wober, caused by a cross from Mbappé. There are concerns about Mbappé's availability for the rest of the Euros, with the possibility of him wearing a protective mask if he continues to play. He might be absent for a minimum of 10 days.
