VisitKlubnik's 50-Yard TD Run Seals No. 20 Clemson's 24-20 Win Over Pitt; Williams Scores Twice
Nov 16, 2024, 08:47 PM
No. 20 Clemson escaped with a 24-20 victory over Pitt in a closely contested game. At halftime, Clemson led 17-7, with quarterback Cade Klubnik passing for 240 yards and two touchdowns to wide receiver Antonio Williams, who finished with 13 receptions for 149 yards and two scores. Pitt's defense committed three consecutive offsides penalties before halftime, but Clemson failed to capitalize. In the second half, Clemson's offense stalled, accumulating only 27 yards until the final drive. Pitt's kicker Ben Sauls connected on field goals of 35 and 47 yards, the latter giving Pitt a 20-17 lead with 1:36 remaining. Clemson had previously been stopped on a failed fourth-and-1 pitch play. With the game on the line, quarterback Cade Klubnik ran for a 50-yard touchdown to put Clemson ahead 24-20 with just over a minute left. Pitt's final drive, led by backup quarterback Nate Yarnell, ended with an interception, sealing the victory for Clemson. The Tigers finished ACC play with a 7-1 record, keeping their conference title hopes alive.
