VisitKings Fire Coach of the Year Mike Brown Months After Extension; Doug Christie Interim Coach
Dec 27, 2024, 11:00 PM
The Sacramento Kings have fired head coach Mike Brown amid a disappointing 13-18 start to the season, in which they have lost 12 of their last 17 games and an NBA-high 13 clutch time games. The firing came shortly after Brown conducted practice and spoke to the media, and reportedly occurred before the team was to fly to Los Angeles. Brown, who was named NBA Coach of the Year in 2022-23 after leading the Kings to their first playoff appearance in 17 years, had recently signed a three-year extension through 2027 just six months prior. Assistant coach Doug Christie will serve as interim head coach. NBA personalities reacted with dismay, with Nuggets coach Michael Malone calling the firing "No class. No balls," and Pacers coach Rick Carlisle expressing shock. Brown's tenure with the Kings resulted in a 104-82 record over three seasons.
