VisitKim Jong Un Inspects Flooded Areas Near China Border, Supervises Rescue of 5,000
Jul 29, 2024, 06:23 AM
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected flooded areas near the country's border with China after a record heavy downpour affected over 5,000 people. The flooding, which hit the city of Sinuiju and the county of Uiju in North Pyongan Province, led to the evacuation of more than 5,000 residents. Kim Jong Un personally supervised the rescue operation, which involved the use of military helicopters, including heavy transport helicopters Mi-26, to evacuate the stranded residents. State media KCNA reported that Kim lamented the poor preparation for the floods and declared an emergency in the affected areas. The water level of the Amnok River significantly exceeded its normal levels, and more than 5,000 people were rescued through 20 consecutive round-trip flights.
