VisitKerry Carpenter's 423-Foot, 3-Run Homer in Ninth Leads Tigers to 3-0 Victory Over Guardians
Oct 7, 2024, 10:40 PM
Kerry Carpenter hit a pivotal 423-foot three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 3-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians in Game 2 of the American League Division Series (ALDS). Carpenter's homer off Emmanuel Clase, who had allowed only five earned runs over the past six months, came with two outs and two strikes. This marked the first time a left-handed hitter has homered off Clase this year. It was also the first time Clase allowed three runs in a single outing during the 2024 season. The home run was the Tigers' first go-ahead homer in the ninth inning or later in a postseason game since 2006.
