VisitKenya Suffers Second Major Blackout in a Week, 70% Power Restored After 488MW Loss
Sep 6, 2024, 08:35 AM
Kenya has experienced its second major power blackout within a week, affecting nearly the entire country except for sections of the North Rift and Western regions. The outage occurred just a day after Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi demanded a report from Kenya Power. The blackout was caused by a 488MW loss due to faults in the 220kV and 500kV transmission lines. Kenya Power has managed to restore 70% of the electricity supply, with full restoration expected soon. Electricity was restored in key regions after a few hours. The government has outlined interventions to address the recurring power issues.
