Sep 13, 2024, 07:13 PM
Kenyan President William Ruto has embarked on a two-day official visit to Germany, where he signed a significant Comprehensive Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The deal will allow 250,000 skilled and semi-skilled Kenyan workers to migrate to Germany for employment, vocational training, and study opportunities. This agreement aims to address youth unemployment in Kenya, fill labor shortages in Germany, and champion ethical and fair labour practices. The agreement also includes provisions for the repatriation of migrants who are in Germany without legal permission. The visit also included bilateral talks on strengthening cultural, economic, and diplomatic ties between the two countries. President Ruto was accompanied by First Lady Rachel Ruto and other Kenyan leaders, including Raila Odinga and Musalia Mudavadi. Additionally, Ruto attended the Annual Citizens Festival in Berlin at the invitation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
