Aug 4, 2024, 02:20 PM
Kaylia Nemour, a 17-year-old gymnast from Algeria, made history by winning the gold medal in the uneven bars individual event finals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking the first Olympic gymnastics medal for any African nation. Nemour's performance, which scored 15.7, is considered the hardest uneven bars routine ever attempted. She had previously battled with the French federation over her autonomy before deciding to represent Algeria. Sunisa Lee of the United States, who has been overcoming kidney issues, secured the bronze medal with a score of 14.8, making it her sixth Olympic medal. China's Qiu Qiyuan won the silver medal with a score of 15.5.
