VisitKamala Harris Takes Over Biden's $96M Campaign Fund as Dems Raise $50M After Biden Drops Out
Jul 22, 2024, 02:16 AM
Following President Joe Biden's announcement that he will not seek reelection, Vice President Kamala Harris has declared her candidacy for the presidency and taken control of the Biden campaign's $96 million war chest. The Democratic Party has seen a massive surge in donations, raising over $50 million within hours of Biden's announcement. This unprecedented fundraising effort marks the largest single-day haul for the party since the 2020 election. ActBlue, the leading Democratic online donation platform, reported that donations spiked to nearly $11.5 million per hour at one point, resulting in a total of $68 million raised in one day. Harris is now positioned to leverage these funds as she transitions the Biden-Harris campaign into her own presidential bid. Notably, $27.5 million was raised in the first 5 hours, and the campaign's total fundraising reached $71 million, with some reports indicating it could go as high as $80 million.
