Vice President Kamala Harris has officially secured the Democratic presidential nomination, becoming the first woman of color to lead a major party ticket in the United States. Harris, a daughter of immigrants who rose through the California political and law enforcement ranks, formally clinched the nomination following a five-day round of online balloting by Democratic National Convention delegates, which concluded on Monday night with 99 percent of the delegates voting in her favor.
