The decision follows a referral by House Republicans, led by Speaker Mike Johnson, who sought to hold Garland in contempt for his refusal to provide audio recordings of President Joe Biden's interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur regarding Biden's classified documents case. The Justice Department stated that Garland's actions did not constitute a crime, thus declining to prosecute him.
