VisitJets Fire Head Coach Robert Saleh, Name Jeff Ulbrich Interim in First In-Season Firing Since 1975
Oct 8, 2024, 03:49 PM
The New York Jets have fired head coach Robert Saleh following a disappointing start to the 2024 NFL season, where the team posted a 2-3 record. Saleh, who had a 20-36 record during his tenure, was informed of the decision by Jets owner Woody Johnson on Tuesday morning. The firing comes after a loss in London, which reportedly embarrassed Johnson, who served as the U.S. Ambassador to the UK. Despite speculation, Johnson stated that quarterback Aaron Rodgers had no influence on the decision. Jeff Ulbrich, the team's defensive coordinator, has been named interim head coach. Saleh was reportedly blindsided by the firing and had planned to demote offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett prior to his dismissal. Johnson believes the change will bring new energy and positivity to the team, which has not made the playoffs in 13 seasons. This marks the first in-season firing of a Jets head coach since 1975.
