VisitJean-Marie Le Pen, 96, Buried in La Trinité-sur-Mer Amid Tight Security, Attended by Marine Le Pen
Jan 11, 2025, 01:26 PM
Jean-Marie Le Pen, the founder of France's far-right National Front party, was buried on Saturday in his hometown of La Trinité-sur-Mer, Brittany. The funeral took place in strict family privacy, attended by around 200 people, including his daughter Marine Le Pen and her sister Marie-Caroline. A significant police presence was deployed to prevent any potential disturbances, and a ban on protests was enforced in the area. Le Pen, who died on Tuesday at the age of 96, had been a controversial figure in French politics, known for his provocative statements and multiple convictions for antisemitism and xenophobia. Former deputy and Le Pen's former right-hand man, Bruno Gollnisch, was among the attendees. Another ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday in Paris, which will be open to the public.
