Jul 11, 2024, 03:32 PM
Jasmine Paolini has made history by reaching the Wimbledon final, becoming the first Italian woman to do so. She achieved this milestone after defeating Donna Vekic in a thrilling three-set match, with scores of 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-8). This match, lasting 2 hours and 51 minutes, is the longest women's semifinal in Wimbledon history. Paolini's victory marks her second consecutive Grand Slam final appearance, following her runner-up finish at Roland Garros. She is also the first woman since Serena Williams in 2016 to reach both the Roland Garros and Wimbledon finals in the same year. Additionally, she is the fourth player in the Open Era to reach her first two Women's Singles Grand Slam finals in the same year. Paolini is now ranked in the top 3 in the WTA Race.
