VisitJapan Issues Highest Alert for Torrential Rainfall in Ishikawa, 30,000 Residents Evacuated
Sep 21, 2024, 06:32 AM
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued its highest-level alert for torrential rainfall in parts of Ishikawa Prefecture on Saturday. The cities of Wajima, Suzu, and the town of Noto on the Noto Peninsula are experiencing significant flooding and heavy rains due to record rainfall. Nearly 30,000 residents on the western Japanese island of Honshu have been advised to evacuate due to the heaviest rainfall since 1975. The torrential rains have caused landslides, swollen rivers, and flooding in homes, with one person reported missing. The affected areas were already reeling from a New Year's Day earthquake, exacerbating the situation. Authorities are urging residents to take immediate action to ensure their safety.
