Japan has announced an additional allocation of ¥1.5 trillion ($9.9 billion) to boost its semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industries. The funding is part of a broader $67 billion initiative aimed at reestablishing the country as a global leader in chip production. A significant portion of this investment will support Rapidus, a homegrown chipmaker working to mass-produce advanced logic chips by 2027. The initiative also includes efforts in quantum computing and the moonshot foundry project, which policymakers view as critical to national security.
