VisitJannik Sinner Cleared of Doping Charges After Trace Element Found, No Suspension for Indian Wells
Aug 20, 2024, 02:50 PM
Jannik Sinner, the world's top-ranked men's tennis player, has been cleared of wrongdoing after testing positive for a trace element of the banned substance clostebol twice in March 2024. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced that an independent tribunal found Sinner bore 'no fault or negligence' for the anti-doping rule violations. The tribunal accepted Sinner's argument that the positive tests were due to contamination from a bare-handed massage by his physiotherapist, with less than a billionth of a gram of clostebol detected. As a result, Sinner will not face suspension, although he has been stripped of prize money and ranking points earned at the Indian Wells tournament.
