VisitJake Bates' 52-Yard FG Lifts Lions to 26-23 Comeback Win Over Texans Despite Goff's 5 Interceptions
Nov 11, 2024, 04:38 AM
The Detroit Lions staged their biggest comeback since 2014 to defeat the Houston Texans 26-23 in a Sunday night game, improving to 8-1 and remaining undefeated on the road at 5-0. Despite quarterback Jared Goff throwing five interceptions—becoming only the third QB since 1991 to win after doing so—the Lions overcame a 16-point deficit, scoring 19 unanswered points in the second half while holding the Texans scoreless. Kicker Jake Bates, a Houston native, was instrumental in the victory, hitting field goals from 58 and 52 yards, both of which narrowly cleared the uprights, including the game-winner as time expired. This marks the largest comeback by a road team in a night game since 2018. Running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery contributed with 71 and 32 rushing yards respectively, with Montgomery adding a touchdown. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown had six receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown. Goff finished 15 of 30 for 240 yards, two touchdowns, and five interceptions.
