VisitJ&K Police in Jammu Invoke Enemy Agents Ordinance Against Terrorist Supporters, Minimum Punishment Life Imprisonment
Jun 23, 2024, 06:24 PM
The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police in Jammu have invoked the Enemy Agents Ordinance to prosecute supporters of terrorism. This stringent law, which dates back to when foreign invaders, particularly from Pakistan, attempted to destabilize India, will be applied to those aiding terrorists. J&K Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain emphasized that the minimum punishment under this ordinance is life imprisonment or death, making it harsher than the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The central government is taking this major step in response to recent terrorist incidents in the region.
