Aug 5, 2024, 11:45 AM
Alice D'Amato of Italy won the gold medal in the women's balance beam final at the Paris Olympics, making her Italy's first-ever Olympic champion in women's gymnastics. The 21-year-old D'Amato clinched the gold with a score of 14.366. The event, held on Monday, was marked by significant falls from top contenders, including Simone Biles and Suni Lee of Team USA, who finished fifth and sixth respectively. Biles, who had previously medaled in every Olympic final she competed in, was unable to reach the podium after slipping off the beam. Sunisa Lee also fell during her routine. Manila Esposito of Italy secured a podium finish. This victory marks D'Amato's first individual Olympic medal.
