VisitItaly Resumes Funding for UNRWA with €35 Million as Part of $38 Million Aid Package
May 25, 2024, 10:00 AM
Italy has announced it will resume funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), committing a total of 35 million euros as part of a $38 million aid package. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated that five million euros will be allocated to UNRWA projects, with the remaining amount directed towards the 'Food for Gaza' initiative. This decision follows a period of suspended aid due to Israeli allegations linking UN staff to the October 7 attack, months after the suspension. Tajani made the announcement during a meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa.
