VisitIsraeli Airstrikes Kill Senior Hezbollah Commander Ibrahim Aqil, 14 Others in Beirut
Sep 20, 2024, 03:44 PM
Israeli airstrikes targeted and killed senior Hezbollah commander Ibrahim Aqil in Beirut's southern suburbs on Friday. Aqil, also known as Tahsin, was the head of Hezbollah's Special Operations, the commander of the elite Radwan Force, and a member of the Jihad Council. He was wanted by the United States for his involvement in the 1983 bombings of the U.S. Embassy and Marine Barracks in Beirut, with a $7 million bounty on his head. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the strike, which also eliminated about 10 other senior Hezbollah commanders. Lebanese health officials reported at least 14 people were killed and nearly 60 wounded in the airstrike. Hezbollah has officially confirmed Aqil's death.
