VisitIsraeli Airstrike Kills Senior Hezbollah Commander Ibrahim Aqil in Beirut's Southern Suburbs
Sep 20, 2024, 03:00 PM
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a targeted airstrike in Beirut's southern suburbs, resulting in the death of senior Hezbollah commander Ibrahim Aqil. Aqil, also known as Tahsin, was the head of Hezbollah's Special Operations and the commander of the elite Radwan Force. He was wanted by the United States for his involvement in the 1983 bombings of the US Embassy and Marine Barracks in Beirut and had a $7 million bounty on his head. The strike also eliminated 10 other senior members of Hezbollah, including operatives from the Radwan Force. The operation, which took place in the Dahiyeh suburb, was confirmed by multiple Israeli and international sources, including the IDF, which stated that Aqil was responsible for Hezbollah's military operations and was in charge of the militia's plan to invade northern Israel. Lebanese health officials reported that at least 8 people were killed and 59 wounded in the strike.
