VisitIsraeli Airstrike Kills Hezbollah's Ibrahim Aqil, Head of Radwan Force, with $7M Bounty
Sep 20, 2024, 03:43 PM
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a targeted airstrike in Beirut, killing Ibrahim Aqil, a senior Hezbollah commander. Aqil, also known as Tahsin, was the head of Hezbollah's Operations Unit, the elite Radwan Force, and a member of the Jihad Council. He was wanted by the United States for his involvement in the 1983 bombings of the U.S. Embassy and Marine Barracks in Beirut, with a $7 million bounty on his head. The strike, which took place in the southern suburbs of Beirut, also resulted in the deaths of at least 10 other senior Hezbollah commanders. Lebanese health officials reported that at least 14 people were killed and nearly 60 were wounded in the airstrike. The IDF stated that Aqil was in charge of Hezbollah's plan to invade northern Israel, known as the 'Conquer the Galilee' attack plan. Hezbollah confirmed Aqil's death on Friday night.
