The Israeli military announced that it conducted an airstrike overnight, targeting and eliminating Hassam Shahwan, the head of Hamas's Internal Security Forces in southern Gaza. The strike took place in the humanitarian area of Khan Yunis, where Shahwan was reportedly hiding among the civilian population. Shahwan was involved in developing intelligence assessments for Hamas's military wing, according to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). Palestinian medics reported that the strike resulted in the deaths of 11 people, including Shahwan, three children, two women, and 10 others, with the total fatalities comprising the Hamas police chief and members of the Hamas-run police force.
