Israel Unanimously Shuts Down Al Jazeera, Citing Security; Effective Immediately

The Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi, has unanimously decided to shut down the operations of Al Jazeera in Israel. Citing national security concerns, the government accused the network of biased coverage and spreading misinformation. The closure affects both Arabic and English channels, involves confiscation of broadcast equipment, and blocking of Al Jazeera's websites. Effective immediately, the closure follows recent legislation allowing the temporary shutdown of foreign broadcasters deemed a threat, with recertification required every 45 days. Israeli police have also raided Al Jazeera's offices, enforcing the closure.
