VisitIsrael Strikes Houthi Targets in Yemen's Sanaa and al-Hudaydah After Intercepting Missile; 9 Reported Killed
Dec 19, 2024, 06:30 AM
Israeli military forces conducted airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, including the capital Sanaa and the port city of al-Hudaydah, following a missile attack targeting Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported intercepting a missile launched from Yemen by Houthi rebels before it entered Israeli airspace. In retaliation, dozens of Israeli fighter jets struck multiple Houthi military targets, including ports and energy infrastructure in Sanaa. Targets included the Haziz power plant in Sanaa, and the Ras Isa oil terminal and the as-Salif port. Houthi media outlets reported that at least nine people were killed in the Israeli attacks, including seven at the as-Salif port. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, IDF spokesperson, stated that the operations were aimed at deterring further missile and drone attacks attributed to Houthi forces, which are backed by Iran. The strikes caused significant damage to power plants and oil facilities, leading to fires and explosions in the affected areas.
