VisitIsrael's First Ground Raid into Syria Captures Alleged IRGC Agent Ali Soleiman al-Assi
Nov 3, 2024, 05:25 PM
Israeli commandos recently conducted a ground raid in southern Syria, capturing a Syrian man, Ali Soleiman al-Assi, from the town of Saida in Syria's southern Daraa governorate. Al-Assi was allegedly gathering intelligence on Israeli military operations along the Syrian border on behalf of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The operation was carried out in recent months by the Egoz commando unit and Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504, under the leadership of the 210th Division. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the operation and released body cam footage of the raid. This marks the first time in the current conflict that Israel has announced sending troops into Syria. The IDF stated that the mission prevented a future attack and exposed the operational methods of Iran's network in the region.
