VisitIsrael Intercepts Yemen-Launched Missile and Drone, Houthis Claim Attack on Power Station
Jan 3, 2025, 11:15 AM
The Israeli military reported intercepting a missile and a drone launched from Yemen on Friday. The missile, which entered Israeli airspace, was intercepted, with shrapnel falling in the Modi'in area of central Israel. At least 12 people were injured during the rush to shelters following the missile alert. No immediate injuries or damage were reported from the missile interception itself. Hours later, a drone launched from Yemen was also intercepted before it could enter Israeli territory. The attacks triggered air raid sirens across central and southern Israel, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The Houthis, an Iran-backed group in Yemen, claimed responsibility for the attacks, stating they targeted a power station near Tel Aviv with a hypersonic missile, as part of their intensified missile and drone attacks on Israel in recent weeks, citing solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
