VisitIsrael Intercepts Houthi Missile; Sirens Sound in Tel Aviv
Dec 16, 2024, 01:23 PM
On Monday, Israeli defense forces intercepted a drone and a ballistic missile launched from Yemen. In the morning, an Israeli Navy missile boat intercepted the drone over the Mediterranean Sea before it could enter Israeli airspace. Later, millions of Israelis rushed to shelters as sirens sounded across central Israel, including Tel Aviv, following a ballistic missile launch from Yemen. The missile was intercepted by the Arrow system outside the atmosphere before entering Israeli territory. Sirens were sounded due to concerns about falling shrapnel from the interception. The attacks were attributed to the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. This is the fifth UAV and sixth ballistic missile fired at Israel since November. Air traffic at Ben Gurion International Airport was halted following the missile launch. The IDF is reportedly planning a counterattack against the Houthis.
