VisitIsrael Intercepts Hamas Rocket Targeting Aid Crossing, Over 100 Houthi Drones from Yemen
Jan 9, 2025, 06:09 PM
Israel's military intercepted multiple projectiles launched towards its territory from both Gaza and Yemen. On January 8, sirens sounded in Kerem Shalom, southern Israel, as Hamas fired a rocket towards the area. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that the rocket was intercepted by the Israeli Air Force with no casualties reported. Kerem Shalom, targeted twice in a week, is a key crossing point used for facilitating humanitarian aid into Gaza. Since the onset of the war, Yemen's Houthi rebels have intensified their attacks on Israel. The IDF announced that approximately 40 ballistic missiles and over 320 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been launched from Yemen towards Israel since October 7, 2023. Most of these projectiles, including over 100 UAVs, have been intercepted by Israeli air defenses. On January 9, the IDF intercepted additional drones launched from Yemen. Sirens sounded in southern Israel, including in Gvulot, due to suspected drone infiltrations. The drones, launched 'from the east', were intercepted by the Israeli Air Force, with one shot down over the Mediterranean Sea by helicopters.
