VisitISKP Claims Kabul Suicide Bombing That Killed Taliban Minister Khalil Haqqani
Dec 11, 2024, 07:37 PM
Khalil Rahman Haqqani, the Taliban's acting minister for refugees and repatriation, was killed in a suicide bombing at his office in Kabul, Afghanistan. The attack, which occurred on Wednesday, also claimed the lives of six others, including three bodyguards. The Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) has claimed responsibility for the assassination, identifying the suicide bomber as Abu Usman Khorasani. The Taliban regime has accused the Islamic State of the attack, marking it as the highest-profile government casualty since their takeover three years ago. Haqqani was a senior member of the notorious Haqqani network, and his death has prompted reactions from various international entities, including condemnations from Pakistan, Iran, and Qatar. The United States had placed a $5 million bounty on Haqqani's head. CCTV footage showed the bomber passing through security with explosives hidden in a fake arm cast. This incident highlights a significant security failure in Kabul.
